Amélie Nicolas

Amélie Nicolas holds a PhD in sociology, is an associate lecturer at the École Nationale Supérieure d’Architecture de Nantes (Nantes School of Architecture) in the field of the human and social sciences, and a member of the School’s LAUA (Langages, Actions Urbaines, Altérités – “Language, Urban Action, Otherness”) research unit. Her thesis, defended in 2009, concerned the social uses of memory in urban development projects, primarily in connection with the reclamation and conversion of former industrial and port sites, and in particular on the Île de Nantes. Her most recent work concerns the relationships between heritage, urban planning and tourism, as well as professional cultures and the emergence of new professions in the field of urban public action.
