Mobility : The Lifeblood of Modernity and the Virus that Threatens to Undo It

Tim Cresswell wrote in 2006 that “mobility is both the lifeblood of modernity and the virus that threatens to destroy it.” This idea was developed during discussions on the concept of turbulence, without knowing that it would find a powerful echo today with the unprecedented situation that has arisen since the appearance of the coronavirus. This text is reproduced and commented on here by Tim Cresswell, to analyze what is at play in our mobile systems when they are faced with particularly strong turbulence.
